Consultative Services and Research
Although each cardiologist at COR Healthcare has special interests within the range of General Cardiology, we all provide general cardiac consultation. When a patient with a special need is identified, we refer both within and outside of our group. All COR Healthcare cardiologists are involved in our research programs and can refer an interested person to the appropriate protocol.
Coronary Angiography and Interventions
Medical Director: R. Michael Wyman, M.D.
Coronary angiography is used to visualize the coronary arteries in order to identify the location and extent of the disease. Over the past several years, powerful techniques have evolved to open partially occluded and occluded coronary arteries. These techniques include angioplasty, stenting, and the newest technique, CTO, which is used for completely occluded arteries. Currently under the leadership of Dr. R. Michael Wyman, COR Healthcare is one of three sites in the United States currently testing and developing the CTO catheter technique.
Medical Directors: Gene Kim, M.D. & Sang Yong Ji, M.D.
COR Healthcare has two board certified electrophysiologists who oversee our arrhythmia program.
Evaluation of an arrhythmia starts with a consultation to assess the patient for signs or symptoms that will help to narrow down the list of diagnostic possibilities. From here, testing may be necessary to assess the frequency, characteristics, and associated symptoms of an arrhythmia.
After the Electrophysiologist's testing is complete, recommendations can be made to the patient concerning management of their particular problem or the need for a higher level of testing such those used in the Electrophysiologic laboratory. Electrical Cardioversion, pacemaker implantation, arrhythmia ablation, and implantable defibrillators are all modalities employed by the Electrophysiologist.
Pacemaker and AICD Implantation
Medical Directors: Gene Kim, M.D. & Bruce Jackson, M.D.
Pacemaker and automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator implantation is carried out by our electrophysiologist and pacemaker specialist in the hospital setting. Postoperatively, patients are managed through our pacemaker/AICD outpatient followup program.
Peripheral Arterial Angiography and Interventions
Medical Director: Ankush Chhabra, M.D.
This consultative service evaluates patients with peripheral vascular disease also known as PAD. Consultation followed by appropriate testing is used to define the location, extent, and therapeutic options for treatment. Diagnostic testing may involve ultrasound, magnetic resonance angiography, computerized tomographic angiography, or direct injection contrast angiography.
Therapies involve medications, angioplasty, stenting and in some cases surgical intervention. Our director, Ankush Chhabra, typically has several ongoing studies assessing the newest devices and medications.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
Medical Director: Salman M. Azam, M.D.
For high risk or inoperable patients, as well as those individuals with a diagnosis of a symptomatic aortic stenosis, there is new hope through a cutting-edge., minimally invasive surgical procedure called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
